Labs BBQ
In 1987, for the first time since the late 1930’s, all of the Laboratories were on the one site. A BBQ was held to celebrate the occasion.

Kevin Curley Memories
A charismatic leader of the Technical Services Section in the 1970’s. Mostly his photos.
Kevin Curley rose from the equivalent of a technician in the post war PMG to become the first technical section head in the Telecom Research Laboratories. He was an inspirational leader who had the knack of dealing with people.
During his career he nurtured many young lads who may, or may not have been, “naughty boys”, and as a result, created a pool of technical experts that no one had previously seen. Without his technical support team, many projects including crossbar exchanges, signalling systems and computer controlled digital telephony, would not have been possible.
Kevin was one of around 350 who escaped from Rabaul during World War II. Escaping down mountainous jungle tracks without food, medicine or equipment took its toll on those who survived. His health never recovered from that time. Even though he smoked, his lungs were in a bad way from Malaria and other jungle diseases.
